INJECTING CONFIDENCE

Aesthetic doctor Dr Jessica Halliley shares her insights on the rising role of social media and why she chose to incorporate Galderma’s Restylane Skinboosters in her clinic

WAS THERE A PIVOTAL MOMENT IN YOUR CAREER WHEN YOU KNEW AESTHETICS WAS THE RIGHT SPECIALTY FOR YOU?

For me it was when I started having treatments myself. After having my son I lost a lot of confidence and didn’t feel like myself anymore when I looked in the mirror. The way those small tweakments improved my psychological wellbeing at that time was so impactful – I knew I wanted to empower others to feel the best version of themselves.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE DOCTORS CONSIDERING A MOVE INTO AESTHETIC MEDICINE?

Ensure it’s truly where your passion lives.

To really make a success of it, you have to put in so much work and invest a lot – both personally and financially – in your training and development. It’s certainly not a quick route to making money as people often think.

Train as much as you can, and never stop learning.

HOW DO YOU THINK SOCIAL MEDIA HAS CHANGED PATIENT EXPECTATIONS AND THE AESTHETICS INDUSTRY?

Social media has made aesthetic treatments far more visible and accessible, meaning patients are often much more aware of the procedures available before they even attend a consultation. While this increased awareness can be positive, it has also contributed to unrealistic expectations – largely driven by filters, edited images and viral beauty trends.

Patients may arrive with very specific requests based on what they have seen online rather than what is most appropriate for their individual anatomy or long-term goals.

ACROSS YOUR OWN SOCIAL MEDIA, HOW DO YOU BALANCE EDUCATIONAL CONTENT WITH MARKETING?

Through my Instagram platform, I like to focus primarily on providing valuable, trustworthy information while naturally showcasing the work we do in the clinic. I’ll mix up educational content, such as explaining how treatments work, discussing common misconceptions, or highlighting treatment options for a specific concern, with real patient imagery. I still like to share appropriate before-and-after results, as well as highlighting the stories behind my patient’s treatment. This helps demonstrate not just the quality of my results, but also the philosophy behind our approach. By prioritising education first, marketing becomes a more authentic extension of that content rather than feeling overly promotional.

WHAT MAKES RESTYLANE SKINBOOSTERS STAND OUT WITHIN THE INJECTABLE LANDSCAPE?

I love the fact you see instant improvements with Restylane Skinboosters, alongside the following longer term hydration and collagen deposition. The NASHA technology ensures it remains within the dermis for longer than non-crosslinked HA skin boosters – with results lasting up to 15 months.

WHAT FEEDBACK DO YOU HEAR MOST OFTEN FROM PATIENTS AFTER THEY’VE HAD A TREATMENT OF RESTYLANE SKINBOOSTERS?

They feel fresher, rejuvenated, and their skin quality has improved. They feel like themselves again.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE AESTHETICS SECTOR TODAY, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

I’m definitely a big advocate for improving regulation in our sector, and ultimately improving patient safety. I’m also a believer in collaboration over competition and I refuse to gatekeep.
