A multi–layered approach to reduce the downtime associated with advanced skin rejuvenation

Even for the most established of aesthetic practitioners who have multiple devices and treatment options at their disposal, the ability to treat both the epidermis (skin texture) and deeper dermal layers simultaneously has always been near impossible.

Traditionally, many practitioners’ first port of call would be to turn to an ablative or fractionally ablative laser technology such as CO2, aiming to create trauma to the outermost layers of skin, with a small thermal effect profile reaching down into the dermis. Although the clinical benefits of these aggressive-type treatments are universally recognised for skin resurfacing, their ability to denature the deeper dermal tissue and stimulate neocollagenesis is minimal. These treatments also carry with them an average of seven to 10 days’ downtime for the patient, and due to the post-treatment aftercare required, can be a daunting prospect that many aesthetic professionals avoid.

Secret PRO by Californian-based aesthetic technology manufacturer Cutera looks to break from away from tradition and offer practitioners a “multi-layered” approach to skin rejuvenation, using a singular platform. Secret PRO uses a safe, gentle CO2 skin-resurfacing application called Ultra-Light to solely target the epidermis, while also utilising the awardwinning Secret RF microneedling technology to reach the sub-dermal layers. This dynamic duo is designed to deliver energy exactly where it is required, therefore preventing unnecessary damage to the skin tissue and dramatically reducing the associated downtime to closer to three to four days.

Secret PRO combines two gold-standard energy sources for full thickness skin revitalisation. While the fractional CO2 laser targets the epidermal layers and penetrate s0.3mm, the RF microneedles can target deeper layers of the skin, from 0.5mm-3.5mm.

As the newest member of the highly successful Secret RF microneedling family, Secret PRO takes what Cutera calls a “completely pioneering, multi-layered approach” to skin rejuvenation, which allows users to treat the most commonly requested indications, such as acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles as well as general overall improvements in the texture, firmness and laxity of the skin.

Cutera’s chief technology officer Michael Karavitis says: “Secret PRO layers CO2 laser energy with radio frequency microneedling, to enable treatment of an incredible range of skin conditions in a single session. While CO2 fractionally ablates the outermost layers of the epidermis, the minimallyinvasive RF reaches down into the deeper dermal layers and denatures the tissue surrounding the microneedles. With this unique combination of gold-standard technologies, the Secret PRO really enables users to treat the full thickness of the epidermis and dermis to stimulate neocollagenesis and increase hyaluronic acid production, providing patients with the radiant skin they demand”.

The manufacturer has already seen huge success and uptake in the North American market, having launched the device in autumn 2020. The brand’s global Secret PRO KOL, Dr Ashish Bhatia, associate professor of Clinical Dermatology at Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, comments: “Whether you’re treating deep acne scars, just looking for a little firming or a micro peel, Secret PRO gives the flexibility to treat all kinds of patient needs. We are able to use the platform for nearly all of our patients. The microneedle RF system allows treatment of all skin types for remodeling and rejuvenation. The fractional CO2 is my go-to for micro peels as well as fractional resurfacing”.

The Secret PRO has four treatment options for skin resurfacing and deep dermal remodelling, designed specifically to address your patients’ needs.
