Contributing reporter Kezia Parkins went to one of Laser Clinics’ Westfield Stratford locations to try yellow LED light phototherapy

THE LOWDOWN

Blue light is said to kill acne-causing bacteria, or cutibacterium acnes and is often combined with red light for this, with the blue light targeting the acne bacteria and the red light targeting inflammation and redness. Meanwhile, yellow light therapy stimulates the production of red blood cells, which play a vital role in skin healing and skin cell rejuvenation but can also help subside active acne. It sends waves of light that stimulate skin cells increasing the skin’s healing rate, blood flow and the natural production of collagen. LED Light also triggers the lymphatic system, which helps remove toxins from the treated area.

THE EXPERIENCE

I’m still suffering from what I believe to be hormonal eruptions on my cheeks, where I get a lot of raised bumps, little whiteheads, and inflammation. I know that blue LED is great for acne and inflammation, and I was hoping yellow light would help also.

After the consultation, therapist and assistant manager of Laser Clinics, Amandeep Kaur Deol, gave my face a double cleanse with the clinic’s Skinstitut products before covering my eyes and setting me under the light for 15 minutes. The warmth of the light felt lovely and relaxing.

When the time was up, Deol applied a balmy moisturiser with an SPF, and advised me to use lots of ceramides to repair my potentially damaged skin barrier, which could be causing my flare-ups.

THE VERDICT

I loved the simplicity and speed of the treatment. I only had it done a few days before writing this, so I think the best results are yet to come. My skin was very glowy immediately after which is either thanks to the LED or the Skinstitut products used, or both. I was informed that, a course of around four treatments is needed to reap the full benefit.

While this may not be the optimum light colour for my small problem patch, I have become fascinated with the idea of ‘collagen banking ’, so yellow LED could be a great one to add to my rotation for that.

BUSINESS BENEFITS

This is a great in-and-out treatment as a stand-alone, but I believe the real benefit for clinics is the ability to combine it with other treatments to boost income and results for clients.

As yellow light is so good at healing and lymphatic drainage, it is great to use post-microneedling or injectables to enhance results and speed recovery.

Price of treatment: £55
