The JCCP declares remote prescribing unacceptable for cosmetic procedures
The Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) has shared its support of a recent Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) determination on a fitness to practice case relating to remote prescribing and delegation.
Misconduct allegations against registered nurse Heather Hazzard were addressed and published by the NMC Fitness to Practise Committee, including improper prescribing, failure to verify qualifications, and dishonesty.
The registrant admitted to all charges in a Consensual Panel Determination (CPD) agreement and did not attend the hearing.
A striking-off order, citing the misconduct’s severity and its impact on public trust and safety was imposed by the panel, chaired by Lucy Watson.
The JCCP released a statement, formally supporting the NMC’s decision and affirming its concern about the standard of prescribing in the aesthetic sector, and the inappropriate supply of POMs.
Internet prescribing platforms that serve to introduce prescribing and non-prescribing practitioners have often been cause for concern in the industry, and the JCCP’s statement reminded prescribers that operate through such platforms that their first responsibility remains with their professional regulators, irrespective of the policies and procedures implemented by the platform.
The statement also said that the outcome of the misconduct case should assist in reminding prescribers, practitioners and enforcers for public safety like environmental health officers of their responsibilities.
After engaging with professional regulators including the NMC, and identifying a common ground, the JCCP has formed the basis of a view to restricting remote prescribing for aesthetic procedures.
The council took the opportunity in its statement to highlight several key findings in the case, alongside the JCCP’s headline guidance, which you can see on its website.

Galderma reports positive interim results for injectable aesthetics portfolio in facial volume loss treatment
Galderma has announced encouraging interim results from its innovative clinical trial assessing the effectiveness of Restylane Lyft or Contour in combination with Sculptra for patients experiencing facial volume loss due to medication-driven weight loss. The three-month data suggests significant improvements in facial aesthetics, with high levels of patient satisfaction.
The study, conducted across two sites in the US, utilised the Shape Up Holistic Individualised Treatment (HIT) approach, and demonstrated enhanced mid-face shape, improved cheek wrinkles, and increased skin hydration and radiance. Notably, 89% of participants reported feeling more attractive and satisfied with their appearance. With a six-month extension study ongoing, the full findings were presented at the JP Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco.
At IMCAS Paris last month, Galderma further educated healthcare professionals by hosting a masterclass with international aesthetics experts to look at managing facial changes in patients experiencing medication-driven weight loss, in clinical practice. Additionally, the first international consensus-based guidelines by global experts for understanding and managing the unique aesthetic needs of this patient population, supported by Galderma, were presented as part of a session dedicated to rapid facial volume loss.
