TREATMENT REVIEW: CALECIM FOR HAIR RENEWAL
Editor Anna Dobbie visits Dr Medispa’s Loughton branch to try the professional hair system
THE LOWDOWN
Calecim Professional Serum is powered by PTT-6, derived from a rich source of stem cells. In a controlled laboratory setting, these stem cells naturally secrete bioactive messengers — proteins and exosomes — creating a complex mixture with over 3,000 unique proteins and millions of molecules per milliliter.
These biochemical messengers communicate directly with both epidermal and dermal skin cells, encouraging them to behave like youthful, healthy skin. Rich in skin growth factors and proteins such as soluble collagen and hyaluronic acid, PTT-6 supports the skin’s natural renewal processes, resulting in firmer, fuller, and more luminous skin.
Calecim’s PTT-6 is ethically sourced and lab-cultivated using umbilical cord lining stem cells — a renewable source of birthing waste collected after the birth of free-range red deer fawns in New Zealand. This makes it both powerful and sustainable. The serum’s potent formula works to hydrate, firm, and rebuild the skin’s structural layers, offering a natural and effective alternative to retinol for promoting healthy, radiant skin.
In addition to transforming the skin, these bioactive proteins work to reawaken dormant hair follicles and reduce scalp inflammation, creating the optimal environment for healthier, thicker, and fuller hair growth. By targeting the root causes of hair thinning, PTT-6 helps restore vitality to both hair and scalp.
After initial treatment and six weeks after session
THE EXPERIENCE:
As an East London girl, I was excited to finally visit Dr Munir Somji’s Dr MediSpa branch in Loughton for the first of my Calecim treatments. I have been bleaching my hair for around 20 years so I thought it was about time my scalp was given some TLC.
My skin was delicately punctured by the practitioner, using a manual microneedling stamp tool, spreading 2.5ml of the pink liquid to the target area at the front of my hairline and massaging the product in. The serum uses a pH indicator to monitor the state of its active growth factors and proteins. After application, which was slightly prickly but not particularly painful, my hairline was slightly red (as shown in the photos). I was advised that after application, I should not wash my hair for 24 to 48 hours.
After the initial session in clinic, I continued the series of treatments twice a week at home for five more sessions, making sure to time the application at least 24 hours before a hair wash. I was slightly concerned that I wasn’t using the application tools correctly, so I was pleasantly surprised by the results.
THE VERDICT
I found it hard to monitor the results of the treatment, so I returned to the clinic six weeks later for ‘after photos’ to directly compare my hairline after the treatment with the photos taken after the first session. My hairline appears a lot fuller, and it seems to have advanced, which has given me greater confidence. I am very impressed that a treatment I mostly administered at home was able to have this effect and have since recommended the system to anyone concerned about their hair density.
BUSINESS BENEFITS
As patients can administer this treatment themselves, it could be sold as part of an aftercare package for other hair regenerative procedures.
