INJECTABLE CELLULITE TREATMENT

Editor Anna Dobbie visits Dr Anna Hemming at Thames Skin Clinic for Alidya’s innovative new cellulite treatment

THE LOWDOWN

Alidya is the first injectable device specifically for prevention and treatment of cellulite.

An anti-lipodystrophic agent and a class 3 medical device, it addresses and prevents the underlying causes of cellulite and its visible effects, including orange peel skin.

Injected into the hypodermis, it triggers a cascade of actions, such as iron chelation, extracellular matrix cleansing, alkalinisation and improved microcirculation, with a potent antioxidant effect (calcium ascorbate), promoting the regeneration of the dermis tissue. Alidya treatments restore the balance and physiology of the dermis and ensure proper tissue oxygenation, as well as modifying and improving underlying adipose tissue, so the skin looks smoother and tighter, with reduced depressions and irregularities.

THE EXPERIENCE

Following assessment and consultation with Dr Anna Hemming, it was decided that I would have seven vials injected, once a week, into the front and back of my thighs respectively. Dr Hemming marked up my legs and applied numbing cream for the first session, but we decided that this was not necessary for future sessions as the pain was minimal. Each appointment, including consultation and photography, took around fifteen minutes to half an hour. The needle entry points were slightly raised for a day or two after the treatment but, as it was performed in the colder months, no one was likely to see my upper thighs so it was of no concern. As someone who was teased as a teenager for my cellulite, I was excited to see the effect the treatment could have and subsequently impressed by the results.

THE VERDICT

I was quite amazed by the almostimmediate results that I saw from my first few treatments. As someone with quite severe cellulite, the difference was impressive and It really increased my confidence, allowing me to wear miniskirts without tights for the first time in years. I recommended the treatment to several people, who have since received the treatment with positive results.

BUSINESS BENEFITS

As I was returning every week, my Thames Skin Clinic visits became part of my routine and, partially due to the intimate nature of the treatments, we rapidly built a close patient/doctor relationship. This made me more likely to turn to Dr Hemming for any medical or aesthetic questions I had, which in turn increased the chance that I would return for other treatments. As this is a body treatment with little to no downtime, it could be performed at the same time as a facial treatment with no contraindications.
