Paper Anniversary
One year after our official WiAM launch, we asked our founders about the past, present, and future of the network
It’s been a year since the launch of our Women in Aesthetic Medicine (WiAM) initiative, and we have achieved so much in 12 short months.
PAST
When we launched the network, our founding members hoped to create a group of women who could collaborate and help advocate for each other. There was also a wish to see more women on stage, lighting the path for future women to have these opportunities.
PRESENT
At this year’s Aesthetic Medicine London conference, we had eight streams of education. Notably, on our skin and body, injectables, live demo, and business stages at least 60% of our speakers were women. The New Blood symposium, organised by Dr Steven Land, featured a whopping 90% female agenda, paving the way for new talent to be seen in the industry.
Also, over the year, we launched our Women in Aesthetic Medicine podcast, with our amazing founding members, along with some special guests. Here, we hosted conversations about the issues affecting women in the industry and gained insight from industry experts on how to navigate potential concerns.
Our podcasts covered a range of topics, offering help to women at all stages of their lives. From the woman just starting in the sector, to the seasoned aesthetic professional learning how to manage menopause symptoms while working, there was a podcast for everyone. The podcasts not only provided insights to the listener base but also to our experts, who had the opportunity to share their thoughts with one another and build connections.
All of our podcast episodes were shared in an accompanying article in the magazine, to echo any key points and spread our experts’ voices further. The magazine also offered a wealth of other opportunities to profile some amazing women in the industry, not only on our WiAM pages.
FUTURE
Looking to the next steps for the initiative, we are anxiously anticipating the results from the surveys we are currently carrying out. With our founding members, we hope to reveal trends that will give us insight into how WiAM can best serve the industry.
The podcast will be returning for a second season, and we already have an amazing selection of industry experts who are keen to get involved. We are also hoping to host more opportunities for women to network at our shows and to utilise the platforms we have, to further benefit the community we have built.
Ultimately though, we need to know what you want from the future of WiAM, so please join our LinkedIn group, and share any thoughts you have with our editorial team.
