Redefining ocular care

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD)is a major cause of ocular discomfort, with a prevalence of 35.8% in the global population,1 and the leading cause of dry eye disease. Dry eye disease symptoms include a dry, gritty, or burning sensation in the eyes, redness, watery or teary eyes and mucus that makes the eyes feel ‘glued shut’ after sleeping.

The meibomian glands are situated along the rims of the eyelid and produce meibum, an oily substance that prevents evaporation of the eye’s tear film. Inflammation of the glands causes them to become obstructed by thick, cloudy-to-yellow, more opaque and viscous-like, oily and waxy secretions, a change from the normal clear secretions.2,3

ENVISION

Envision is a non-drug treatment improving patient’s vision and quality of life, and revolutionising ocular care for the treatment of MGD.

It is the most advanced in-clinic ophthalmic platform available, delivering precision nonsurgical eye care procedures and providing customisable treatments to address common eye conditions.

Envision’s small-size applicators, Forma-I using bipolar radiofrequency (RF) and Lumecca-I using intense pulsed light (IPL), ensure precise depth control and allow for highly efficacious procedures in the small, more delicate subdermal layers of the periorbital region.

FORMA-I: BIPOLAR RF

Forma-I is intended for use in the periorbital area and upper and lower eyelids and relieves inflammation of meibomian glands and eye irritation. This is an innovative non-surgical procedure that delivers bipolar RF technology to smaller, more delicate subdermal layers. The compact size reaches optimal treatment temperatures up to 43 degrees, providing comfortable, precise, and uniform volumetric heating. Designed with unprecedented ocular safety, the small sized applicator, precision RF depth control, and intelligent temperature monitoring, ensures an effective non-drug alternative for dry eye and MGD sufferers.

Forma-I treatment feels like a warm massage in the eye area, improving blood circulation. By directly treating the periorbital region and eyelids, Forma-I can help alleviate issues such as red, burning, itchy eyes. Heat is delivered during the procedure to ‘melt’ the oils clogging the glands, and pressure from the movement of the applicator allow for the oils to be expressed. Manual expression is carried out after treatment.

LUMECCA-I: IPL

Lumecca-I creates tissue heating which helps to reduce inflammation. Optimised for skin tones I-IV, Lumecca was developed with an advanced xenon flash lamp producing 40% of total pulse energy in the 500600nm range. IPL energy penetrates the skin and is selectively absorbed by lesion chromospheres (melanin or haemoglobin). Lumecca with the Lumecca-I adaptor, delivers precise, targeted, spot-sized IPL procedures to treat inflammatory conditions in smaller zones around the eyes. Lumecca-I requires no anaesthesia, incisions or downtime that is associated with excisional interventions.

Increasingly, IPL has been shown in clinical studies to have a positive effect on patients with MGD and dry eyes.4,5

Envision is a ground-breaking, nonsurgical ophthalmic device, using multiple programmable modalities which work synergistically to deliver precision ocular treatments.

With Envision, practitioners can perform safe and effective procedures, to improve meibomian gland function and reduce dry eye symptoms.
