More than one third of Brits have experienced skin issues linked to air pollution

New research conducted by Westfield’s How We Shop platform unveiled the concerning reality that over a third (38%) of Britons believe they have experienced skin issues due to air pollution, with prevalent issues including dryness (54%), increased dirtiness (45%), blemishes (21%), and early signs of ageing (20%).

Over 70% have concerns about the detrimental effects of air pollution on their skin and, as cities grapple with increasing pollution levels, it’s no surprise that skin health is a growing concern.

More than half of Britons credit their heightened understanding of how air pollution affects the skin to improved environmental education.

The second-most prevalent skincare mistake was skipping essential steps or not using products in the correct order, with more than half (54%) of creators caught doing so. The product most of these creators skipped was toner, while almost as many missed cleanser.

Rounding out the top three most common skincare mistakes is not applying products to the chest or neck alongside the face, with just as many (54%) influencers skipping this.

A new Google Trends search analysis has revealed that searches for ‘plastic surgery’ soared by 72% across the US, less than 24 hours after the Met Gala 2024 on May 6.

The analysis, conducted by personal health consultants TruMe Labs, was determined using the search terms ‘plastic surgery’ and ‘mommy makeover’. The research established the US average search rate over the previous thirty days, and compared percentage increases at peak rates, to show the influence of the Met Gala.

Worldwide, the terms have seen a slight increase, particularly ‘mommy makeover’ which saw a slight peak on May 6. In the UK, ‘plastic surgery’ and ‘mummy makeover’ haven’t seen a particular increase in searches since the Gala, with interest staying much the same.
