Combating SkinXiety
Vicky Eldridge visits Dr Uliana Gout at her London Aesthetic Medicine (LAM) clinic for one of her signature hyper-personalised combination treatments
DrUliana Gout has an infectious positivity and passion for skin that was one of the many reasons she won the title of Aesthetic Practitioner of the Year – Doctor at the Aesthetic Medicine Awards, 2022.
A leader in the industry, having sat at the helm of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine for the past six years and as Course Director of the Aesthetic Medicine World Congress (AMWC), Dr Gout is highly proactive about raising standards in aesthetics.
But luckily for me, she is also still very much hands-on in her clinic, and I visited her recently for glow-inducing combination treatment to combat what she has coined ‘SkinXiety’.
Dr Gout came up with the term to highlight the widespread anxiety surrounding one’s appearance and skin quality, which has been experienced by all age groups, genders and skin types during the last two years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
For me, this had been added to further by losing my dad and having the virus within a few weeks of each other in March. I was feeling very tired and drained, and my face felt like it had aged overnight. My skin was also very spotty. I needed some skin TLC, and Dr Gout was the perfect person to provide it.
Despite being in the heart of bustling Harley Street, LAM Is a little spot of tranquillity. The clinic is uber private, with relaxing music playing in the modern, clean, white waiting area.
It’s the perfect spot to sit and enjoy refreshments while filling out your consultation forms. It was a pretty muggy day in central London, so I could have happily sat there all day.
After a consultation and chat through my concerns, Dr Gout explained the individualised protocol she recommended.
Dr Gout is very much about what she terms “hyper-personalisation”. For me, this meant tripolar radiofrequency (Lynton 3Juve) to tighten and trigger collagen induction, the LAM Spot and Blemish Facial for epidermal resurfacing and to target the little blemishes I had, and an infusion with a nourishing mesotherapy cocktail.
This was all finished off with a lie down under the Dermalux Flex for some healing infrared LED.
While collagen stimulation is a long game, the instant effects of the peels, hydrating mask, and mesotherapy infusion topped off with the diodes meant my face felt better than it had in a long time.
I had to keep the mask on and wash it off later at home, so my skin was a bit sticky for a few hours, but it felt like it had been given a new lease of life when I woke up the next day.
When we go through big things in life, be that the pandemic, losing someone we love or being burnt out and stressed, it’s easy to forget the impact on our skin.
What I mostly came away with from Dr Gout’s clinic was a feeling of being lifted up and more enthusiastic about my own day because her infectious attitude to life rubbed off on me.
Providing amazing results from treatments is one thing, but making people really feel great about themselves when they walk out of your door – that’s where the magic happens.
