Polynucleotides: the new frontier of skin bio-restructuring
Pharmaceutical chemist, cosmetologist and director of Promoitalia Scientific Department Basso Di Pasquale looks at how covalently-bonded nucleotide monomers are revolutionising aesthetic medicine
To this day, medical aesthetic treatments for the improvement of skin quality have been carried out using cocktails based on inert substances to nourish the cell and hydrate the skin. Today, the introduction of products based on polynucleotides represents an absolute innovation, promising to revolutionise rejuvenation.
Polynucleotides have various functions: they increase the hydration of the skin layers and protect the cells from oxidative stress thanks to their chemical structure. Moreover, they have a unique characteristic: they bind to specific receptors present on cells, triggering metabolic mechanisms which lead to an increase of collagen, elastin and endogenous hyaluronic acid.
For this reason, polynucleotides are defined as bio-restructuring compounds, that not only nourish and protect cells, but above all stimulate an increase in production and efficient reproduction, thus considerably reducing the ageing process.
But let’s see in detail what these substances are and why they are so precious for our skin. Polynucleotides are bioactive molecules present in the nucleus of all living cells, they constitute the DNA and regulate the biological processes of every living cell. They represent a source of information for all cells, the handbook on which all the information for the perfect functioning of cellular life is reported. They are normally extracted from biological matrices (organic origin), purified through specific purification technologies known as HPT (Highly Purified Technology) and transformed into gels with different molecular weights and different concentrations. Recent scientific studies have also demonstrated the high ability of polynucleotides to improve healing, and for this reason, they are recommended as pre-surgical preventive treatments to improve and reduce scars.
The market is full of bio-revitalising products, but it is worth emphasising two products in particular. With formulations dominated by polynucleotides with the addition of hyaluronic acid, vitamins and coenzymes to increase quality and efficacy.
The Nucleofill line is a range of products based on highly purified polynucleotides which differ in concentration and molecular weight. The range is comprised of four different products designed to effectively treat the various problems related to skin ageing, from the eye area to the neck, and from the face to the hands. Additionally, the formulation is suitable for the reduction of incipient hair loss and counteracting bulbar thinning.
The second significant product is the Nucleoskin Topic. A cocktail based on highly purified polynucleotides, mixed with low-dose hyaluronic acid and glutathione.
Nucleoskin Topic is particularly suitable for the treatment of skin subjected to strong oxidative stress, smokers, people who are subjected to particular pharmacological treatments or who use strongly oxidising substances for work. Not to mention the underestimated strong, oxidising effect of smog, which is one of the first causes of skin ageing. Nucleoskin Topic is the perfect ally to reduce these problems and quickly improve skin health.
Last, but not least, Nucleofill Body, is a cocktail with a revolutionary formulation designed solely to improve the skin appearance caused by cellulite and localised fat. Nucleofill Body combines the power of polynucleotides with the effectiveness of some ingredients such as enzymes and bioactive molecules capable of working synergistically precisely on critical areas.
The Nucleofill range, Nucleoskin Topic and Nucleofill Body, therefore, fall within this very broad range of overall face and body rejuvenation, for the overall improvement of skin laxity and to counteract the loss of volume in specific areas, texture and micro-roughness. For both products, the protocols vary depending on the type of indication and the starting condition of the patient.
