Women in Aesthetic Medicine

Aesthetic Medicine has created a new networking group to support women in the industry

After many conversations with female professionals, the Aesthetic Medicine team realised there is a disparity in how men and women are treated in the industry. We have therefore formed Women in Aesthetic Medicine (WiAM), with the aim of creating a space to support women and empower them as they become the leaders of tomorrow.We have approached a group of influential women in aesthetics to guide the group forwards in a way that can best benefit the industry. These founding members are all inspirational professionals in the sector, and we’re so excited to be working with them.

Introducing our founding members:

AMY BIRD

Amy Bird is a nurse prescriber and regional lead for the Northwest of England for the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses. Since 2014, she has held the role of founder, director, lead nurse practitioner and registered manager at KAST Aesthetics Ltd, a CQC registered clinic, where she runs a team of experienced nurses, aestheticians, and admin staff.

VANESSA BIRD

Vanessa Bird has worked for many leading distributers in aesthetics. She uses over a decade of industry experience, knowledge, and connections as The Aesthetic Consultant to understand the specific challenges faced by many successful, high-profile individuals and clinics as she helps them to succeed in the elite ‘top tier’.

ALEX BUGG

Alex Bugg works for Web Marketing Clinic, a family-run digital agency specialising in medical aesthetics, which builds websites and delivers marketing campaigns for doctors, nurses, dentists, distributors, and brands. She is also a regular columnist for Aesthetic Medicine magazine and often appears as a speaker at aesthetics events, offering business advice for clinic owners.

DR JONQUILLE CHANTREY

Dr Jonquille Chantrey is a surgeon certified by The Royal College of Surgeons, England, with 16 years of experience in trauma, reconstructive, plastic, and cosmetic surgery. In addition to her practising work, Dr Chantrey also owns her own advanced aesthetics clinic in Alderley Edge and London.

TRACEY DENNISON

Tracey Dennison is an aesthetics nurse director, trainer, mentor, and coach. She has been in nursing nearly three decades, working in aesthetics since 2014. Dennison is the nurse director of East Riding Aesthetics and Wellness which offers a full range of aesthetic injectable treatments, as well as focusing on menopause and weight management issues.

VICKY ELDRIDGE

Vicky Eldridge is an award-winning journalist, editor, and founder of Vicky Eldridge Copywriting. She has specialised in the aesthetics industry for 20 years and set up Aesthetic Medicine as the first UK magazine dedicated to this sector in 2004. In 2015, she won a Safety in Beauty Diamond Award for her contribution to supporting standards within the industry and the MyFaceMyBody Award for Journalist of the Year.

DR MAYONI GOONERATNE

Dr Mayoni Gooneratne (MBBS, BSc, MRCS) is a London-based general surgeon with over 18 years of medical and surgical experience. As a graduate of St George’s Hospital Medical School, she has been a member of the Royal College of Surgeons since 2002. Dr Gooneratne offers clients the best in results-driven treatments and customer service.

DR ULIANA GOUT

Dr Uliana Gout is the founder of London Aesthetic Medicine Clinic and LAM Academy. She is a past president of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine and sits on the board of trustees. Dr Gout also acts as BCAM appraiser for the GMC and has co-authored numerous medical textbooks. She is also a member of Aesthetic Medicine magazine’s editorial board.

DR ANNA HEMMING

Dr Anna Hemming is a fully qualified general practitioner and medical skin doctor with over 22 years’ experience. She owns Thames Skin Clinic in Twickenham, which she founded in 2019. Dr Hemming has a background in anaesthetics and emergency medicine, serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps as a captain and spent seven years as a general practitioner to Buckingham Palace.

DR SABIKA KARIM

Dr Sabika Karim is an award-winning aesthetic doctor and founder of Skin Medical, who has garnered a global reputation as an innovative and highly skilled thought leader. After she completed her MBBS and MRCGP in London and a fellowship in Aesthetic Medicine in New York, Dr Karim chose to specialise in aesthetics, moved by its ability to give her patients confidence.

DR SABRINA SHAH-DESAI

Dr Sabrina Shah-Desai is an aesthetic ophthalmic plastic reconstructive surgeon, and specialist in aesthetic procedures of the eye and face. She has 24 years’ experience in oculoplastic surgery and 16 years in aesthetics. Dr Shah-Desai is also a director of Perfect Eyes Ltd, and director of Oculo-Facial Aesthetic Academy (OFAA).
