Welcome to the June issue of Aesthetic Medicine
Happy June… or May if you are reading this at Aesthetic Medicine Live, as this issue went to print just days before our annual London event at Olympia. It will be my first AM Live show – and my first AM Awards – if you see me there, come say hi.
I am particularly proud to have launched our new Women in Aesthetic Medicine initiative at the show. Following several conversations with female professionals, we realised there is a disparity in how men and women are treated in the industry. We have therefore formed the group to create a space to support and empower women as they become the leaders of tomorrow. We have approached a group of influential women in aesthetics to guide the group forwards in a way that can best benefit the industry. To find out more about how you can get involved, go to page 23.
June is Pride Month, so we have dedicated this issue to showing pride in our fabulous, diverse industry. On page 67, clinical educator Bryony Elder looks at how facial proportions should be considered in transgender patients and reporter Becki Murray discusses the innovations that facial feminisation is bringing to the industry on page 43. On page 59, I speak to aesthetician William Foley about his experiences in the industry as an openly gay man and on page 48, Dr Vincent Wong tells consultant editor Vicky Eldridge about his LGBTQ+ foundation.
In addition, Dr Sabika Karim looks at the results of Sinclair’s study of female perception and how it affects patient confidence (page 14) and, on page 53, Miss Sujatha Tadiparthi looks at the reasoning behind some of the results of the BAAPS audit. Unfortunately, Dr Patrick Treacy was unable to attend AM Live but he has given an overview of the presentation he had planned to deliver on methods of reversing dermal filler blindness on page 34.
