FINDING THE REMEDI

The synergy between aesthetics and wellness has been one of the biggest shifts in the industry’s culture in recent years. One clinic taking that a step even further by integrating spirituality into the mix is Remedi, London.

A beautiful, glass-fronted modern building, the Remedi Clinic, is nestled discreetly on the corner of Ace Way, Embassy Gardens, just through an underpass and a short walk from the busy streets of Nine Elms.

More like a sanctuary for total mind, body and spirit wellness than a traditional aesthetics clinic, Remedi is the result of a collaboration between Dr Nima Mahmoodi and nurse Yasmin Shirazi, long-term friends who had both found their way into the aesthetics space but who wanted more for themselves and their patients than chasing lines and wrinkles.

A CHANGE IN DIRECTION

It was during the first lockdown in 2020 that Dr Mahmoodi had a total rethink about the way he was living his life and running his business. Having worked in aesthetics for seven years, his focus had traditionally been a financial one. He explains, “I went from working six, seven days a week to zero days. I felt lost and didn’t know what I was going to do with myself. It was quite a big shock, but it was a blessing in disguise because it allowed me to take a step back and reflect on life, to reflect on what I actually wanted to do and what would fulfil me as a person.

“Ever since coming out of university, I was told that to be happy in life; you need to have status and materialistic wealth, and for me, that meant being a doctor, a dentist, or a lawyer; those were my options.

“We no longer live for self-fulfilment and enjoyment. We live for other people’s validation. I was a completely different person, very superficial. I always had a nice watch on my hand and drove a nice car. But I was doing it for the wrong reasons.

“I had to unlearn a lot of things that were instilled within me and find my own way and my own happiness.”

It turned out that happiness lay within going down a more spiritual path, and Dr Mahmoodi then wanted to share that path with others.

CONSCIOUS DESIGN

The Remedi Clinic opened in November 2022. The space is truly beautiful, with every design decision being made to soothe the senses and promote a feeling of serenity, balance and harmony from the moment you step through the doors off the street.

As you walk into the large, open and high-ceilinged reception space, you are greeted with a huge white sculpture of a figure holding an hourglass coming out of the wall adjacent to a white spiral staircase, representing the concept of time that Remedi embodies.

“Our ethos is based on the notion of time”, says Dr Mahmoodi. “Whether we’re looking to turn back the effects of time on our physical appearance through the various cosmetic treatment options; or on a deeper cellular level using our innovative medical therapies, dealing with certain emotional blocks that have stopped us from moving forward, or looking to be more present in the now, via our numerous mindfulness classes and workshops.”

A Sand and Sea pendant hangs from the ceiling combining delicately suspended clear crystal and gold glazed ripples from echoing the shared forms of dunes and waves, aiming to evoke the textures of these landscapes and a self-playing piano, a construct by Dr Mahmoodi himself, brings a sense of tranquillity and peace into the space through sound.

MIND, BODY SPIRIT

The name Remedi stands for REcreaing ME DIfferently so the clinic’s treatment menu covers the physical, emotional, social, spiritual and intellectual, as Remedi believes that nurturing these different dimensions of wellness will ultimately help people live the most fulfilled lives.

“As humans, we are multidimensional beings”, says Dr Mahmoodi. “We are building this new concept, in that we are looking after all aspects of the human form – the external beauty, the physical, the emotional, the intellectual and the spiritual.”

Dr Mahmoodi heads up the aesthetics side, but as a qualified Reiki practitioner and soon-to-be Reiki master, he also provides a healing touch to all his aesthetic treatments.

As a specialist in integrative medicine, Shirazi uses the lens of scientifically proven medicine to support her holistic approach to providing treatments that can help protect the body from environmental damage to prevent illness instead of treating illness.

In addition, the clinic also brings in specialists in reiki, yoga, sound healing, personal training, massage, Ayurvedic health and healing, integrated medicine, acupuncture and osteopathy and hypnotherapy, as well as aesthetics.

Treatment rooms are all named with words starting with an R, encompassing the clinic’s philosophy: Rejuvenate, Relax, Restore, Renew, Revive and Rebalance.

The clinic includes a number of innovative and cutting edge technology based treatments for biohacking, including cryotherapy, where the whole body is subject to intensely cold temperatures for up to three minutes; an infrared sauna that is clinically proven to boost wellness in many aspects, including stress and anxiety, detoxification, heart health and immunity and the Rebalance Impulse, a non-invasive stimulation and cognitive training device based on applied neurosciences devoted to fighting stress and preventing health problems.

In addition, it has an Emerald Laser, an energy-based wellness device that is FDA-cleared to help remove, on average, six inches of fat circumferentially in the waist area and increases energy levels within the body.

The device allows the body to repair, restore and rejuvenate itself by harnessing its capability to function at a much higher level through cellular activity. It also reduces fat without harming the cells and causes collagen reprofiling, improving cellulite’s appearance.

On the aesthetics side, the clinic offers injectable treatments, including botulinum toxin dermal fillers and regenerative treatments like Profhilo and Plenhyage, as well as the TruSculpt Flex from Cutera and SkinCeuticals skincare.

Health and wellness services include diagnostic testing, intravenous and intramuscular nutritional therapy and personalised wellness plans.

The gorgeous upstairs studio also offers mindfulness workshops, yoga classes, and sound healing.

The juxtaposition of medical treatments and energy healing is not something you usually find, but this is at the heart of Remedi. “As medical practitioners, we kind of steer towards the more biological aspects”, says Dr Mahmoodi. “We believe everything is biology, so the smallest particles are our cells. But if you were to look at quantum physics, the cells can be broken up into atoms, and the atoms into quarks, which are basically vibrations – energy. If you look at us as just being energy, you will see things entirely differently.

“The more you become in tune with it, the more you understand we can manipulate this energy to do good. It’s mind-blowing.

“I’m not saying that everyone has to take it as far as me and incorporate spirituality into their clinics, but I can’t even begin to explain how this has changed my life. I didn’t know what happiness and fulfilment was until I delved into this whole world of spirituality and energy-based healing systems.”
