Mary White shares a case study using Revanesse
Since its launch in October 2021, Revanesse has made waves in the UK dermal filler market with its spherical particles which, among other things, give it a reduced immune response and cause less inflammation. This has been particularly important during a time when inflammatory reactions to dermal fillers have been more prevalent than ever due to covid-19 infections and vaccinations.
Smooth spheres provide a favourable safety profile because their shape makes them more biocompatible, reducing irritation, pain and swelling. Spheres also typically have a smaller surface area and inflammatory reactions are more pronounced for irregular-shaped particles or those with more surface area. In fact, a clinical study showed the incidence of swelling was 51% higher with the comparator.
In addition, Revanesse undergoes a purification process that removes floating BDDE and impurities, resulting in a clean product and reduced irritation. Here, nurse Mary White shares a case study where Revanesse was her product of choice.
THE PATIENT
A 63-year-old patient who had previously had regular Botox and some dermal fillers four or five years ago came to see me. She was complaining about feeling and looking tired. She was very slight in build with very minimal facial fat. Following assessment, I decided to treat her with dermal fillers.
PRODUCT SELECTION
I chose Revanesse for this patient for several reasons. My clinic is CQC-regulated and one of the most important factors for me to consider is the safety and efficacy of the treatments we deliver. I only use dermal fillers that are FDA approved, and Revanesse is made in Canada and has FDA approval.
The track record and clinical data to back up the safety of the product goes a long way to compounding my choice of filler. There are hundreds of filler brands available to us in the UK, most of which are cheap and cheerful but do not have FDA approval. Some are not even CE marked. Only a handful of fillers are FDA approved and Revanesse is one of them.
My patient is extremely petite. She is slight of build and not very tall, and has very minimal body fat and facial fat. It was extremely important to choose a filler that will give her a delicate and flattering result, and not look bulky or fake. Having very minimal fat meant that her skin will be relatively unforgiving and filler may be noticeable, visible and palpable. It was important for me to deliver a product that feminised her with minimal swelling. The spherical nature of the HA in Revanesse is quite unique and I find this brand of filler has markedly less swelling than some other brands I have used. I decided it would be the best choice for my patient as it would look the most natural for her facial shape, and would also produce less swelling.
The final aspect of the choice for this patient was the cost. She has a budget to adhere to, and whilst she is able to afford a full-face rejuvenation treatment, she does not have an unlimited budget. The benefit of Revanesse is the syringes are refilled with 1.2ml of product, rather than the usual 1ml. This meant that during the first treatment session, by delivering five syringes of Revanesse, my patient was actually receiving 6mls of filler. This enabled me to deliver a more effective treatment with slightly more product than other brands.
THE TREATMENT
I did the treatment in two sessions, as follows: First treatment session
• 2.4ml Contour to cheeks and “Swifts point”. 0.2ml Swifts point per side, 0.5ml cheekbones (via cannula) and 0.5ml malar fat pads and suborbicularis oculi fat (SOOF) (via cannula)
• 2.4ml Shape to jawline. Ramus 0.2ml, jawline 0.4ml (via cannula), 0.4ml chin prominence, 0.4ml pre-auricular area (via cannula)
• 1.2ml Ultra into nasolabial folds and mouth corners Second treatment session
• 1.2ml Shape via cannula to pre-auricular area
After the treatment she said she felt more confident and felt she looked less tired. She was very happy with the outcome. We intend to carry out another maintenance session in around six months.
