National Medical Weight Loss Programme offers game-changing web-based training to tackle obesity head on

Primary healthcare is struggling to manage the obesity crisis with 1 in 8 adults in England classified as morbidly obese. The decommissioning of many NHS weightloss services including the ability of GPs to prescribe Saxenda – the daily self-injected glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor-agonist medication – means that people who are living with obesity now have nowhere to go for help, support and treatment. With dedicated, web-based learning and video consultation solutions, The National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP) provides the perfect platform for registered healthcare professionals to become certified and get all the support they need to set up a private weight-management practice.

EXPERT ONLINE TRAINING

NMWLP training on the medical management of the overweight and obese was co-written by Dr Matt Capehorn and Sandy Green. Matt is an expert adviser to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) on obesity, and part of the author group for RCGP-accredited obesity educational courses. Sandy is a nurse consultant and the founder of NMWLP.

The CPD-certified training course is also accredited by the Royal College of Nurses (RCN) and the World Obesity Federation, through the Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education (SCOPE).

Training also looks at best practice for remote consultation services and prescribing for patients in line with the high-level principles for remote prescribing, as co-authored and agreed upon by thirteen of the UK’s healthcare regulators. PriMed Aesthetic Pharmacy offers NMWLP Certified Partners access to bespoke healthcare video consultation software which includes patient and HCP identification, data encryption and data storage.

BENEFITS OF AT-HOME LEARNING

Online learning is revolutionising training opportunities for HCPs. Thanks to NMWLP’s virtual platform, delegates can now further their educationfrom home with minimal impact on their current lifestyle.

As well as eliminating the risk of coronavirus spread in the current pandemic, online learning brings many added benefits, as training is more conveniently accessed by all from the comfort of their own homes and with no travel or hotel expenses to worry about. Flexible and self-paced study allows delegates to fit studying around their personal schedule, which is particularly ideal for those who need to balance work and family commitments.

REMOTE CONSULTATIONS

Demand for safe, remote consultation services and prescribing in healthcare is on the rise, and thanks to the benefits, is set to stay beyond the pandemic. There are many benefits to accessing healthcare services remotely for both patients and practitioners, including saving time and money, no need for travel, no risk of coronavirus exposure, and simple ways to communicate to get rapid medical advice and support.

Using video consultations, NMWLP Certified Partners can safely supervise weight loss solutions and develop a sustainable obesity management business.

Becoming a Certified Partner of the National Medical Weight Loss Programme (NMWLP) is available exclusively to registered healthcare professionals including doctors, dentists, prescribing pharmacists, nurse prescribers and nurses (who must work with a prescriber who attends the training). Certified Partners also benefit from marketing and educational support, preferential product pricing and insurance provision.
