WELCOME TO THE NOVEMBER ISSUE OF AESTHETIC MEDICINE
Firstly, thank you for all your wonderful and encouraging feedback on our redesign. We endeavour to keep our looks as fresh and aspirational as our content going forward. Speaking of which, this issue features some particularly inspiring aesthetic practitioners. The members of the Black Aesthetic Advisory Board (pages 22-26) are demonstrating admirable bravery in asking their peers to ackowledge the racial issues that exist in aesthetics and take real, bold steps towards making this a fair, safe and inclusive space for those who choose aesthetics as their career, as well as for the diverse mix of patients you treat. We all have a responsibility to make sure forward movement continues regardless of media attention. Another name that needs celebrating is Mary O’Brien. Vicky Eldridge interviewed her as she takes the helm at the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (pages 29-31). The organisation’s first female president, she brings a breath of fresh air and a strong focus as one of the leading voices of plastic surgery in the UK. I hope you read this issue with a sense of pride in the colleagues you share the specialism with.
