REVERSE TIME AT THE CELLULAR LEVEL

The Power of SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum, by Dr Ahmed El-Houssieny

Science can’t turn back time, but can it slow down the clock at a molecular level? One of the most under-recognised drivers of skin ageing isn’t just collagen breakdown. Beneath the surface, a chemical process called glycation binds sugars to proteins like collagen to create what is known as the Maillard reaction – forming Advanced Glycation End-products (AGE’s). These damaging compounds stiffen and degrade the skin’s support structures, accelerating wrinkles, sagging, and dullness. Critically, the most effective interventions happen before AGE’s fully form.

SkinCeuticals has been a pioneer in researching this process, with over 15 years of focused research in glycation science. Their latest breakthrough, A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum, represents the culmination of this work: a fast-absorbing, triple-patented, clinically backed formulation targeting the visible signs of ageing linked to glycation.

A SCIENCE-DRIVEN SOLUTION TO SAGGING AND WRINKLED SKIN

The A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum is designed specifically to restore firmness, elasticity, and luminosity in ageing skin. Unlike conventional products, which only focus on addressing the visible signs of ageing, this serum takes aim at the glycation process itself – an upstream trigger that accelerates skin ageing over time. It’s formulated to help address the glycation process and improve skin affected by AGE accumulation.

POTENT INGREDIENTS WITH PROVEN EFFICACY

This advanced serum combines multifunctional, high-concentration actives:

• 34.6% Flavo-ProxylaneTM : combines 30% Proxylane for firmness and wrinkle reduction with 4.6% Wild Fruit Flavonoids (Blueberry, Pomegranate, and new Cassia Alata extract) to help reduce UV-induced oxidative stress, which can be linked to accelerated AGE formation, and protect against free radical damage.

• Rhamnose: A naturally derived sugar that helps boost skin’s appearance and enhance elasticity, while stimulating collagen IV, VII and XVII and improving dermo-epidermal junction (DEJ) anchoring.

• Gentiana Lutea Root Extract: A plant extract known for its antioxidant properties, which reduces inflammation and stimulates collagen I and elastin.

REAL RESULTS: SCIENCE MEETS PATIENTS

In a 12-week monotherapy clinical study of 76 participants with Fitzpatrick Skin Types I-VI – 50% of whom declared they had sensitive skin – patients saw elasticity improvement by:

• +7.6% in the forehead*

• +8.5% in the cheeks*

• +4.5% in the jawline*

Participants also experienced significant improvements in firmness (+8.3%), sagginess (-7.6%), and radiance (+30%).**

In my clinic, I have conducted patient case studies undergoing treatments like microneedling and fractional lasers, supplemented by A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum. Patients have reported improved recovery with less downtime, erythema, and visible skin tightening.

One standout case involved a patient using the serum daily; within weeks, we observed softer lines, firmer contours, and a revitalised glow. Feedback was consistently positive, highlighting smoother texture and restored confidence.

SEAMLESS INTEGRATION INTO SKINCARE PROTOCOLS

Using the A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum is both simple and effective. In the morning, patients should begin with double cleansing, followed by their chosen antioxidant serum. Then, apply 3-4 drops of A.G.E. Interrupter Ultra Serum, gently massaging it into the skin. Finish with a broad-spectrum SPF to protect against UV-induced glycation. For best results, repeat the serum application in the evening after cleansing.

We all want skin that reflects how youthful we feel. This serum doesn’t just treat the symptoms – it targets one of the most advanced biochemical processes behind ageing. With daily use, we’re not only improving skin’s appearance; we’re slowing the clock at the cellular level.
