WELCOME TO THE MARCH ISSUE OF AESTHETIC MEDICINE

What a month! I was lucky enough to attend my first IMCAS World Congress in Paris which was a brilliant opportunity to speak to international sector experts and find out more about the wider European aesthetics industry. On the downside, my phone was stolen on the first day, so I spent most of this month battling my insurance company, in a technological black hole. Speaking of events, it’s not long now until AM Live and the Aesthetic Medicine Awards. The awards shortlisting has already begun, and I look forward to sitting down with the amazing panel of judges we have assembled to evaluate your awards entries and find out more about the great work of those at the forefront of their sector.

This month’s issue focuses on ethics – atopic on everyone’s minds following the DHSC’s most recent response to the Impact of Body Image on Mental and Physical Health report, rejecting calls by MPs to urgently introduce a promised licensing regime to regulate nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. Dr Sophie Shotter and Dr David Eccleston give their thoughts on the response (p14-16) and IMCAS course director of plastic surgery Dr Sébastien Garson looks at online regulation in France and what the UK could learn (p66-67).

Dr Joshua considers the effect AI filters has on body image (p52-54), while reporter Becki Murray looks at the role body toning treatments can play on body positivity (p62-63). We also speak to Dr Tunç Tiryaki, who has spent much of the last month carrying out vital humanitarian aid to victims of the earthquakes (p44-45).
