The whole world has been talking about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars in April over a joke made about his wifeJada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. The comedian claimed he didn’t know that Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia however the incident has sparked calls to end the stigma around the condition, which can be emotionally debilitating for sufferers. To find out the real impact of living with alopecia, we sat down with dermatologist and hair loss specialist Dr Martin Wade to find out his views (p66-68). Hair loss is becoming an increasingly integral part of aesthetics, as are broader aspects of wellness. It’s no longer just about fixing the cosmetic symptoms of ageing, but more of a 360-degree approach to looking and feeling well that underpins and informs many treatment plans for body contouring and facial aesthetics. Check out our feature on metabolic syndrome on pages 29-31 and the future of regenerative medicing (Yamanaka factors) on pages 63-64.
