Treatment review: melasma treatment with SmartPico

THE LOWDOWN

As one of the most flexible aesthetic systems on the market, the SmartPico laser system by Lynton is a recommended protocol for photorejuvenation, toning, tattoo removal and scar treatment, as well as the removal of benign pigmented lesions and melasma. The device’s adaptability and customisation capabilities set it apart from other lasers. It combines two wavelengths (532 and 1065nm), four emission modalities (Pico, Nano, Double and Thermal), and many unique handpieces of varying shapes and sizes to allow for maximum flexibility and control. 95% of treated patients report significant improvement in their quality of life, with 85% reporting improvement in their overall intimate satisfaction.

THE EXPERIENCE

Upon my initial consultation with Dr Ejikeme, I was impressed by her understanding of melasma and her personalised approach to treatment. She attentively listened to my concerns, assessed my skin condition, and devised a tailored treatment plan to target the underlying causes of melasma.

The treatment regime began by preparing my skin with Obagi Nu-Derm Skin Transformative Kit Rx. This comprehensive skincare kit, specially formulated for dry skin, primed my skin for the subsequent Smart Pico treatments. Two Smart Pico treatments, using the Nano- 532 and Pico-1064 settings, were administered with precision and expertise by Dr Ejikeme. The treatment felt like being pinged lightly with an elastic band, and the downtime only lasted a day or two after each session. With each treatment, I noticed a gradual improvement in the appearance of my melasma, accompanied by a noticeable enhancement in overall skin texture and tone. Post-treatment, I incorporated Obagi Tretinoin 0.025% into my regime to further enhance the efficacy of the treatment by promoting skin cell turnover and facilitating deeper penetration of the subsequent therapies.

THE VERDICT

As the treatments progressed, I witnessed a remarkable transformation in my skin. The stubborn patches of melasma gradually faded away, revealing a more luminous and even complexion. At one point, I started to develop raised, hormonal acne on my chin (which I believe was unrelated to the treatment, but instead due to a change in diet). Dr Ejikeme prescribed topical antibiotics, and the problem area cleared up almost immediately. I was impressed by her holistic approach of treating the pustules, despite them not being linked to my original skin concern, and my resulting clearer complexion means I am now confident to leave the house without foundation for the first time in my adult life. Her expertise, coupled with state-of-the-art treatments and premium skincare products, has revitalised my skin and instilled newfound confidence.

BUSINESS BENEFITS

The SmartPico has great flexibility of use and treatment thanks to the various spot shapes, sizes and emission modalities (nanoseconds, picoseconds, thermal, double pulse). The treatments have minimal downtime and side-effects, with high efficacy of results due to the high pulse energy (2GW peak power).
