HIGH-TECH FACIALS: BABYFACE LUTRONIC
Professional Beauty deputy editor Kezia Parkins, visited Linia Skin Clinic on Harley Street to try the Babyface laser facial from Lutronic
THE LOWDOWN
The Babyface facial is designed to rejuvenate and restore skin’s natural radiance with the power of LaseMD Ultra which creates micro-injuries on the skin’s surface, triggering its natural healing response to reveal a complexion as fresh as, well, a baby...
Using an advanced thulium laser, the next-gen tech can tackle common skin conditions, such as acne, pigmentation, fine lines, and rosacea. This process stimulates collagen production and encourages cellular renewal, resulting in smooth, balanced skin.
THE EXPERIENCE
This was my first time visiting Dr Simon Zokai at the super sleek Linia Skin Clinic. In his treatment room, we sat down for a chat about my skin concerns, which are fine lines and random breakouts on my cheeks that leave behind post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation [PIH].
I was excited to try this facial as even though I have been doing this column for a year, I had still not tried any lasers. I was a little scared of the unknown. Dr Zokai’s soothing manner calmed me before his assistant gave me a thorough cleanse.
The Babyface facial focuses on a CDS (Cosmeceutical Delivery System) -a process of administering a cosmeceutical compound into the skin to achieve a beneficial cutaneous aesthetic effect. Lutronic’s LaseMD Ultra is a non-invasive laser that uses a 1927nm Thulium fiber laser to improve the overall appearance and texture of the skin. The laser penetrates to a deep level of the epidermis and dermis without causing the upper layer to peel.
Meanwhile, precise microchannels are created to allow cosmeceuticals to penetrate deep into the skin for boosted absorption.
Dr Zokai moved the LaseMD handpiece over my face to deliver laser energy while the microchannels and tiny punctures were made. During treatment, I was given a fan to direct towards my face to reduce the pain and burning. I have to say, thank goodness for that fan because the burning sensation was quite a bit more extreme than I expected. The device was passed over each area of my face four times while the searing sensation continued. Dr Zokai, kept checking in regularly for my pain threshold which was very manageable but surprising… I have had a lot of microneedling and radiofrequency combined so I was assuming this would be similar.
After the treatment, my face felt on fire. It was red and inflamed, soothed slightly by the Lase MD Ampoule Dr Zokai applied. For my specific concerns, we chose the vitamin A and retinoic acid serum which I was given to apply to my micro-channelled face for the next few days.
THE VERDICT
I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Linia Skin Clinic and Dr Zokai but I can’t say the facial was an enjoyable relaxing experience. What I can say though, is that within a week of treatment, my face was indeed as smooth as a baby’s.
In the days following the treatment, my skin looked super dry and dull with minute specs/scabs visible -only with incredibly close inspection. By day seven, all of these had shed revealing bright, smooth, and glowing skin. Now, just over a week after receiving the facial, I am having my monthly hormonal breakout but it’s milder than usual. I am probably not going to see the full effects of the facial until four to six weeks post-treatment.
BUSINESS BENEFITS
The Babyface Facial from Lutronic is great for many types of problem skin especially fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, acne scars and uneven skin texture, meaning a wide range of patients that could benefit. Different treatment heads also allow for use on the body as well as the scalp.
