Mr Andrea Marando tells Aesthetic Medicine about using devices to prep the skin before and after cosmetic procedures helps to reduce healing times and scarring

MR ANDREA MARANDO

Mr Andrea Marando is one of the leading plastic and cosmetic surgeons in the North West of England. Originally from Italy, he attained his surgical qualifications and training there, developing a personal interest in procedures for aesthetic enhancement.

Aesthetic Medicine: As a surgeon, at what point did you start introducing devices to your clinic?

Mr Andrea Marando: It has taken over 15 years for me to introduce any device into my clinic.

The reason for this has always been based on results. My work allows visible results nearly instantly and I have been mindful to only recommend a product I believe in.

As a plastic surgeon specialising in cosmetic procedures, most of my consultations with patients involve understanding the clients’ journey to me and looking at their skin quality, laxity, elasticity, and overall skin appearance. I get to hear about what treatments they use regularly, what has worked well and what they have tried tested liked and disliked.

Over the last five years, I became aware that to maintain good skin, a targeted approach is necessary. People have different skin types and issues and therefore a combination of treatments always seems to prove more beneficial.

What drew me to Crystal Clear’s Skinstorm device was the layering approach, as well as the research and technology behind it. I believe when skin is at its healthiest, it heals better and is more receptive to cosmetic products. The treatment is fantastic for facial surgery patients because it helps to get the skin in great condition providing a fantastic foundation, but it is also very beneficial beyond surgery.

The Skinstorm technology has a definitive layering approach which treats the skin in many ways and is a technique-based treatment that can be customised. I believe this is the best approach for maintaining skin health, together with facial massage.

Aesthetic Medicine: Why is it important to ensure patients are prepping their skin before and after surgical treatments?

Mr Andrea Marando: It’s a little like making sure the foundation is sturdy before you build a structure. Structure is everything. I can retighten skin; however, it is important to keep the skin looking and feeling great and ensuring good products are used to protect the skin. Everyone should take care of their skin regardless of whether they have surgery or not.

Skinstorm in my opinion targets the skin in numerous ways which aid skin health.

I’ve noticed that, after a Skinstorm treatment, the skin is glowing and calm, and patients comment that the next day the skin is glowing and flat.

Aesthetic Medicine: What advice do you have for practitioners considering introducing a new device for combination treatments into their clinic?

Mr Andrea Marando: Always go with the results and technology, as well as something that can be customised to your client’s individual needs.’
