DEAR READERS

Diversity is easy to celebrate in principle. The harder test is what it changes in daily practice. Does it influence how we assess a face, choose a treatment or adapt a protocol? Does it shape whose expertise we value and which assumptions we question?

This issue looks at diversity not as an exercise in optics, but as an essential part of safer, thoughtful and individualised care.

Our cover star, Kelly Saynor, understands what it means to feel unseen. Growing up as a Black girl in predominantly white Cheshire shaped her determination to challenge accepted practices and create space for others. Developing Bell’s palsy at 20 gave her insight into the emotional impact of living with facial asymmetry or difference. As Kelly says: “I don’t want people to feel they have to make their own way alone.”

Elsewhere, our skin-of-colour treatment edit asks practitioners to examine the treatments, technologies and homecare they trust for melanin-rich skin.

We also explore anatomy and aesthetic identity when treating Chinese faces, while our feature on ADHD in women asks what neurodiversity means for those working in aesthetic medicine. From AI-driven beauty ideals to inclusive leadership, this issue considers diversity in its broadest, most practical sense.

The industry becomes safer, fairer and more interesting when difference is treated as essential knowledge, not an inconvenience.
