The new version of BTL’s Emsculpt body-contouring device offers more than just muscle toning

Aesthetic devices manufacturer BTL has released a supercharged upgrade of its Emsculpt body-contouring machine that launched in 2018, this time with the addition of radiofrequency. Combined with the highintensity focused electromagnetic wave (HIFEM) technology of the original Emsculpt, Emsculpt Neo is designed to achieve impressive reductions in fat layers as well as muscle growth. This means that the device can now be used on patients with a higher BMI up to 35.1

Emsculpt Neo works by heating the muscles while burning fat, allowing for synergistic effects that result in more fat reduction and muscle growth than if radiofrequency and HIFEM were undertaken individually. The radiofrequency heating quickly raises the muscles’ temperature by several degrees, preparing them for exposure to stress, similar to how a warmup activity prepares the body before exercise. The temperature in the subcutaneous fat then reaches levels that cause apoptosis, permanently damaging fat cells and slowly removing them from the body.

The application of HIFEM energy then contracts the muscle fibers at high intensities, forcing the muscles to adapt and resulting in an increase in the number and growth of muscle fibers and cells.

Seven clinical studies were completed to mark Emsculpt Neo’s launch to market. These showed:

• An average of 30% fat reduction from a course of four weekly treatments.1

• An average of 25% increase in muscle mass from a course of four weekly treatments.2

• An average reduction in abdominal separation (diastasis recti) of 18.8% and an average 5.9cm circumferential reduction.1

• The temperature in fat tissue was maintained just below 45°c for the entire treatment.3

• 93.9% of patients reported satisfaction with the results.2

Emsculpt Neo can be used to treat the buttocks, abdomen, arms and calves. Four 30-minute treatments five to ten days apart is standard protocol, with final results usually visible three months after the last treatment.
