American medical and aesthetic lasers manufacturer Sciton recently launched into the UK market with the establishment of direct operations in the UK and Ireland, through which it will expand its marketing, sales, clinical education and service offerings. 

The brand is based in Palo Alto, California and was established in 1997 as a medical device company. It offers aesthetic and medical devices for women’s health, fractional and full-coverage skin resurfacing and skin revitalisation, phototherapy, vascular and pigmentation lesions, scar reduction, acne, body contouring, and hair reduction. In addition to the US, UK and Ireland, Sciton also operates with direct sales teams in Canada and Japan and has distributor partners in more than 45 countries.

We take a look at the brand’s hero devices:

JOULE X

Sciton’s flagship system, the Joule X platform can be customised with multiple modules to offer various laser and light treatments. It features Sciton IQ, the brand’s data analytics programme that creates trend reports to allow practices to keep on top of system and treatment information, helping with clinic planning and resource utilisation. The platform has three delivery modes: Arm, Fiber and BBL (broadband light).

BBL – An IPL device, BBL is available as a standalone compact system and as part of the Joule X platform. It utilises flash-lamp technology with interchangeable Smart Filters to enable various skin conditions to be treated with one handpiece, Finesse Adapters for treating hard-to-reach areas and CoolComfort technology for improved performance and patient comfort during long treatments. The BBL device delivers wavelengths from 420-1400nm and can treat indications including acne, pigmented lesions, vascular lesions such as cherry angiomas and rosacea, and deeper lesions on darker skin types. It can also be used for hair removal.

ClearV A dedicated laser for vascular treatments, ClearV treats visible vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins, vascular lesions and skin discolouration. Using the 1064nm wavelength for strong absorption in oxyhemoglobin, the treatment provides selective heating to eliminate veins and make unwanted vessels less noticeable. The handpiece features Subsurface Vein Illumination (SVI) to give the practitioner enhanced visibility subsurface, with push-button controls to change the lighting colour, level of brightness and aiming beam intensity. It also has adjustable integrated cooling and VascuZoom, which enables practitioners to quickly and easily change spot size between 2 and 6mm.

ClearSilk – A handpiece for non-ablative treatment of minor skin imperfections and general revitalisation on all Fitzpatrick skin types with no downtime, according to Sciton. It is indicated for fine lines and wrinkles, pigmented lesions, redness, rosacea, improved luminosity, acne scars, and more. ClearSilk has a built-in sensing gauge to indicate temperate ranges between 32 and 48°C.

Halo – A hybrid fractional laser that delivers tunable ablative (2940nm) and non-ablative (1470nm) wavelengths to the same microscopic treatment zone for targeted, reproducible results. It is indicated for sun damage, wrinkles and fine lines, enlarged pores, medical dermatology, scar revision including acne scars, and skin resurfacing. It can be used on the face and body on all skin types. Sciton says results can be expected in one or two treatments with low downtime.

The handpiece includes integrated air cooling and smoke evacuation, while dynamic thermal optimisation automatically adjusts the power of each pulse based on the temperature of the patient’s skin. Adjustable beam placement allows the practitioner to change the size and position of the delivery beam to help when treating areas with distinct edges and linear scars.
